Ashbury – Endless Skies LP (ROCK055-V-1) Fri, 14 Nov 2014 02:07:15 +0000 Ashbury - Endless Skies LPAshbury – Endless Skies LP. Vinyl reissue of classic early 80s hard rock private press record from Arizona! A real gem for fans of classic hard rock like Jethro Tull and even 70s metal heads into such obscurities as Legend (From the Fjords) or southern rockers into groups like The Outlaws. Hypnotic vocal hooks and a mystical atmosphere mixing acoustic and electric guitars lures you right into this group’s unique hard rock sound. It’s amazing how such talent can slip right under the radar. These guys were buried treasure waiting to be unearthed when we made contact over 5 years ago and re-released their masterpiece “Endless Skies” on compact disc. Since that time, they have played Ragnarok festival in Chicago with great success and set off to Europe for two more festival shows! Here we bring you a near exact vinyl reissue of the legendary 1983 debut album that collectors scramble for, brilliantly re-mastered and including an informative lyric insert and color poster.

Track Listing:

  1. The Warning
  2. Take Your Love Away
  3. Twilight
  4. Vengeance
  5. Madman
  6. Hard Fight
  7. No Mourning
  8. Mystery Man
  9. Endless Skies

“Hard rock ripper with progressive edge; been compared to Black Sabbath and Bill Nelson” – The Acid Archives  (I think they mean a cross between the two)

“Some people are just good at certain things, just rule at something. Tom Brady at playing quarterback in the NFL, for instance. Sidney Crosby in hockey, as an example. Dennis Bergeron at coming up with amazing obscure hard rock. I mean, let’s face it, here’s a guy who (along with his late partner, Phil Baker) turned me onto: Winterhawk, Slauter Xstroyes, Full Moon, Sorcery, Manilla Road’s “Dreams Of Eschaton,” do I need to go on? Well, Dennis has done it again, this time hitting me right between the eyes with a little album that came out of Oklahoma in 1983. Now I’ve heard that the wind goes sweeping down the plain in Oklahoma, but the guitars must have too, and a couple guys named Randy & Rob Davis must’ve been standing there, waiting to catch ’em. They did and then they started to play like madmen (well, there’s a song on the album called “Madman,” so…) and came up with this absolute beaut of a record. There is really very little I can say about how good this damn thing is, from beginning to end. The songs are so good, the playing (Randy Davis – lead guitar) & singing (Rob Davis) so spectacular that you’re going back & hitting “repeat” to hear every single track again. So what does ASHBURY actually sound like? The best description I can think of is The Moody Blues songs & vocal melodies crossed with the hard rock riffs & leads of Full Moon (or for the obscure-challenged, Ritchie Blackmore, maybe). From the opening of “The Warning” through scorched-in-your-brain hook-laden jewels like “Twilight” & “Vengeance,” this album stands up with anything from the ’70’s, including all the big boys. You then finish up with the 7+ minute epic title cut and your face-to-face with an opus that finds it’s equal in Full Moon’s “Winter City” & Winterhawk’s “Period Of Change.” This is the real deal, kids, & it’s only a shame that ASHBURY never did a follow-up. Essential for any ’70’s hard rock fanatic!” – Chaos Realm

Remastered IRON CLAW now available as double album vinyl! Fri, 14 Feb 2014 04:56:36 +0000 Iron Claw LPIRON CLAW – s/t 2-LP. The Vintage/Rockadrome label is happy to announce the gate-fold cover double album vinyl release of this early 70s Scottish underground heavy rock music. Iron Claw were stomping around the UK with the likes of Black Sabbath, Hackensack, Pink Fairies, Juicy Lucy and others from the time, but never released a proper album. Their name, Iron Claw, was taken from the first line in King Crimson’s song “21st Century Schizoid Man”. In the beginning, Iron Claw probably became the world’s first Black Sabbath tribute band, as they incorporated the entire first Black Sabbath LP and single into their set! As it turns out, Bassist Alex Wilson was the one who unearthed his personal recording of the oldest known concert tape of Black Sabbath, a 1969 gig recorded in Dumfries, Scotland! As time progressed, Iron Claw’s live sets included many originals as well as hanging on to some covers such as War Pigs, Fairies Wear Boots, Wicked World, Green Manalishi and Lady Whisky. This collection of sixteen original studio tracks documents their existence from 1970 thru 1974 and includes extensive liner notes, lyrics and photos inside the gatefold and on a 12″ insert. Also includes an 11×17 poster. For fans of Tear Gas, Leaf Hound,   Jerusalem, Ancient Grease, Toad, Incredible Hog, Elias Hulk! All new mastering for vinyl by Tony Reed!

It’s also available in a limited edition red vinyl package through the label website only. The special edition extras include:

Icecross LP white vinyl

Icecross possess a unique and dark sound for their time which reveals influences ranging from Sabbath to Crimson to Blue Oyster Cult and beyond all melded together in such a way to form their distinct Icecross style. Considered proto-metal by many, though they don’t achieve this with a typical smash your face approach. Instead, Icecross unleash some killer inventive guitar sounds by way of Leslie speakers combined with wild ominous bass lines, frantic drumming, spooky effected vocals and splendid use of bow to create a perfect dark heavy guitar album. One of the few, if not the only, Icelandic band inspired by Sabbath at that time.

For fans of Leaf Hound, Blue Cheer, Elias Hulk, Iron Claw, Jerusalem, Necronomicon, Hairy Chapter, Incredible Hog, Dust, Pentagram, Flower Travellin’ Band and the like.

All tracks are self-composed and sung in English:

Side One:

  1. Wandering Around
  2. Solution
  3. A Sad Mans Story
  4. Jesus Freaks

Stepson CD review on Concreteweb.be Mon, 20 May 2013 04:47:00 +0000 Stepson Lost Tapes LPHere’s a review of the Stepson – The Lost Tapes 1972-1974 CD found on

Album Title:
The Lost Tapes
Release Date:
Tuesday, April 2, 2013
Review Type:

This CD is from the mastertape recorded in 1972/1974 which seemed to be lost. This quartet are clearly influenced by hard rock’s illustrious past, cuz there are faint echoes of Led Zeppelin, Cactus, Grand Funk, Leafhound and Bloodrock. Although Stepson are, at least on the surface, an easily familiar commonplace hard rock band, there is something absolutely intriguing and hypnotizing about their stab at bluesy hard rock music. The powerful opening track “Danger Zone” is screwed into your head, then you get hit with the excellent “Streets of Alameda” and ripping “Can’t help myself”. The songs on this LP are played with such awesome power that you cannot fail to be blown away. Possibly the best track on the album is the stunning MC 5-like “Midnight creep” which is a roller coaster ride into guitar madness. The recording is marred somewhat by inferior equipment and bad mixing, but it still is a splendidly thick slice of 70’s hardrock served up in the Golden Eagle in the motorcity Detroit, Michigan.

Stepson – Lost Tapes 72-74 LP (ROCK/LION048-V-1) Fri, 17 May 2013 06:39:34 +0000 Stepson Lost Tapes LPStepson - Lost Tapes 72-74 LPSTEPSON – Lost Tapes LP (Rock/Lion048-V-1) OUT NOW! About forty years in the making, and finally the world has the second Stepson album! Utilizing tapes preserved by drummer Len Fagan then transferred to digital and mastered by bassist Bruce Hauser, this fine collection of twelve songs is as close as the world will ever get to a real second Stepson album. Some is raw, some is embryonic, but it’s all prime stuff for fans to savor, reflecting the band’s “devil may care” attitude and rock ’n’ roll lifestyle. And just in case you don’t believe that the band liked to party, consider that the exact recording dates (and even some locations) have long been forgotten. To borrow an old adage: If you can remember Stepson, you weren’t there. Kicking off with a crunching riff by guitarist Joey Newman, ‘Danger Zone’ is the heaviest track Stepson ever cut, replete with an ominous atmosphere reflecting the seedy side of their native Los Angeles; ‘Streets of Alameda’ (1974) is an ode to vocalist Jeff Hawks’ hometown, featuring a liquor store holdup and a stolen Lincoln used as the getaway car. ‘Flesh & Blood’ is the only track on here that got an official release, albeit by ex-Smith belter Gayle McCormick as the title track to her second solo album, released by Decca in 1972. This version showcases the riff in full glory. And if you don’t believe that this riff is strong, consider that The Tonight Show band played it for approximately two weeks in 1976, prompting Fagan to confront “author” Don Menza, who coincidentally did the Flesh & Blood album’s horn charts and was now claiming credit for the song under the title ‘Instant Heart.’ The song disappeared from late night TV show shortly thereafter. ‘Bad Situation,’ the only other 1974 track, describes the band’s predicament that year: a track that should have propelled them to the big time, but instead bounced off a brick wall like a tennis ball. The maracas and funkified quasi-Bo Diddley groove hint at Stepson’s growth and what might have been.

•Bluesy hard rock band that rose from the ashes of Touch. Their sole album was released on ABC/Dunhill Records in 1974. Despite the fact that the band never toured in support of their amazing album, over the years the word has gotten out about this incredible album and the band enjoys cult success among collectors. Easily one of the best examples of “cock rock” ever put onto wax.

•Another sure to sell-out limited edition vinyl release from Lion Productions & Rockadrome’s Vintage label, including full size gatefold insert with detailed liner notes by Doug Sheppard, plus photos, and lyrics!

Side One:

1. Danger Zone
2. Streets of Alameda
3. Can’t Help Myself
4. Flesh & Blood;
5. Don’t Say Goodbye (Say Goodnight)

Side Two:

1. S-H-A-K-E
2. Midnight Creep
3. Mississippi Dirt Road
4. Rock’D To My Very Soul
5. Bad Situation

Ashbury and Winterhawk mesmerize the crowd at Ragnarokkr fest in Chicago! Fri, 10 May 2013 20:14:53 +0000 Winterhawk Jordan MacarusRagnarokkr heavy metal fest hit the city of Chicago’s south loop area at Reggies on May 3rd-4th. In a surprise to some, Rockadrome label artists, Ashbury and Winterhawk were huge hits as both had the crowd chanting their names and left great impressions on everyone in attendance! The buzz was that they stole the weekend!

I’ve seen this latest incarnation of Winterhawk several years prior at the Alehorn of Power fest in Chicago and it’s always a pleasure to watch Jordan Macarus wield his homemade six string axe and slay the audience with his magical playing. If you’ve never seen them, you need to. At Ragnarokkr they played classics like Hammer and the Axe, There and Back Again, Free to Live and ‘new’ classic Larkin. It’s about time they headed over to Europe!

This was the first time I’ve seen Ashbury live and they were excellent. They entranced the crowd with their own brand of classic epic hard rock as they played classic tracks from the Endless Skies album and a few from their self-released follow up. These old pros knew how to deliver the goods and they whipped the crowd into a frenzy with their great delivery and execution! That’s the great thing about heavy metal crowds, they are not going to just sit back and enjoy they are gonna rush the stage, fist pump, scream, and call for more….and they did!!! Get ready Europe as Ashbury are headed over to Germany and Greece later this year! Ashbury ragnarokkr
